Equality for women! In the world of hats, women are gaining ground the fight for the right to equality. Hats that were once the domain of men only, no girls allowed, have now become fashionable for ladies. Fedoras, trilby hats, baseball caps, and straw hats are all great fashion accessories for the eclectic and quirky female. Women's hats can also be practical hats that have a touch of style, such as beanies and winter hats. Milliners making hats overly decked out with flowers and ribbons are a long way in the past. However, since then, ladies have simply not worn any hat, opting for hairstyles from simple to elaborate.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, the hat is making a comeback. A great gift or treat for yourself, the hat is an accessory that can make a mediocre outfit cool and a cool outfit, divine. They can be mysterious and sexy, drawing attention to the eyes. Or, they can be fun and quirky, imparting a joy de vivre that is attractive in its own way. A perfectly cocked trilby is a perfect touch to urban eclectic fashion. So, here's the 411 on the types of women's hats that are trendy right now. Mostly they are men's hats to begin with because the style in modern times is less fussy than the traditional feminine hat.

The first in the line of popular men's hat is the fedora. Oddly enough, fedoras were originally women's hats, but they took on so much popularity with men that the original use was eclipsed. The fedora is an Indiana Jones style hat, usually mad from felt (though sometimes leather) with a crease down the centre and a wide crim. The trilby hat is a version of the fedora and has become more popular than that hat in recent years. The Trilby hats differ from fedoras in that they have a smaller brim that turns up in the back and is squeezed into a teardrop shape in the front. Famous characters have sported the trilby, such as Sean Connery in the early James Bond films and Matthew Bomer as Neal Caffrey in the modern hit television show White Collar.

Women's hats made of straw can range from cowboy hats to trilby hats to wide, floppy beach hats. Baseball caps are being manufactured as decidedly feminine by some companies, with traditional female colours, such as pink, and themes, like flowers, etc. Whatever hat you choose, when worn with confidence, it can be the icing on the cake of your fashion sense.
